Description:
Your Choice of Sports, Enrichment or Internships Julian Krinsky Yesh Shabbat offers campers a choice of sports, enrichment or internships. Sports campers choose tennis, golf or basketball. Enrichment campers attend either the junior or senior program, depending on their age. And our internships give campers an inside look at professional life at one of Philadelphia's top businesses convenient to the Cabrini campus. SPORTS: Improve your game with world-class instruction and Maccabiah-style competition Yesh Shabbat concentrated sessions let you focus on getting better at your favorite sport, with individualized instruction, competitive play and a Maccabiah-style tournament. Each student chooses the Julian Krinsky School of Tennis, School of Golf, or School of Basketball for the full session. Students participate in their chosen sport 5 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Along with strong fundamental and competitive skills, our programs develop sportsmanship, self-confidence and maturity. Tennis — Now in its 30th year, the Julian Krinsky School of Tennis provides the same instruction that has made our Haverford College tennis program internationally acclaimed. Tennis students receive a minimum of 5 hours on-court instruction and drills daily, rain or shine, including competitive play and half-hour private lessons at no extra charge. Advanced players can receive more intensive training for tournament-level competition. Golf — Famous for our Haverford College program, the Julian Krinsky School of Golf features a staff of 40 U.S. and International PGA- and EGTF-qualified teaching professionals. Our guaranteed low student-to-instructor ratio lets our professionals track each player's progress and provide a high level of individualized coaching in a positive motivational atmosphere. Golf students spend up to 5 hours each day in a balanced program of instruction, practice and play on five courses and two driving ranges. Matched foursomes, each with their own pro, play between 9 and 15 holes daily in stroke and match-play formats. In addition, we tee it up once a week for an 18-hole tournament. Basketball — Directed by high school, college and Maccabiah coaches, our basketball program teaches the skills you need to be a tough competitor on the basketball court. Days are divided between instruction and competition, and state-of-the-art training aids are used to maximize each player's development. For the beginner, instruction centers on the fundamentals: dribbling, passing, shooting and general team concepts. Advanced players focus on higher-level basketball techniques, conditioning and the mental aspects of the game. All students compete in a league tournament each session. ENRICHMENT: Study your favorite stuff! This summer, why not enjoy even more choices at Yesh Shabbat! Junior and Senior Enrichment offer a great selection of courses so you can concentrate on the subjects you like, try new things, or do both. Students in both programs choose their own schedule of morning classes, Afternoon Discovery, and recreational sports and activities. Junior Enrichment (Ages 10–13) — Designed for the energy, interests and activities of young teens, Junior Enrichment is held on campus at Cabrini. It combines expert instruction in the arts, computers, science, popular culture and dozens of subjects students love, with sports, activities and special programs. Scheduling flexibility and a wide range of subjects let students focus on areas they're most interested in or discover new ideas, skills and experiences. Senior Enrichment offers Major Tracks in business, computers, community service, cooking, drama, music and Princeton Review SAT prep. The Majors provide in-depth instruction 3 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Students can also choose a varied weekly schedule of Focus Tracks (3 hours/day) and Discovery Workshops (1 1/2 hours/day), which meet two or three days a week. INTERNSHIPS: Real experience for real decisions A Yesh Shabbat Internship lets you “try on” a career so you can decide — based on your experience — whether you want to spend your college years preparing for it. Interns are chosen on the basis of their application package and work from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday, in professional businesses or facilities convenient to the Cabrini College campus. They receive a $125 weekly stipend. Depending on what you choose, a Yesh Shabbat internship could put you in a studio, office, museum or lab, behind the microphone or on the stage. You’ll be mentored by a participating professional — maybe interning with a law firm, working with a vet, doing PR or involved in sports management, fashion, entertainment, research, cooking, writing, business or more.
