Description: Landmark School 2010 Summer Programs Explore the Summer Program at Landmark School – where students can improve their academic skills, relax, and have fun with friends and teachers who understand their learning differences (dyslexia). Whether it’s gaining a jump-start for the next grade or supplementing gaps in learning, Landmark has a history of helping students to achieve. Beyond academics, the program offers exciting hands-on, creative and outdoor activities on Boston’s beautiful North Shore.
Our focus has never changed: academic skill development and support for students with language-based learning disabilities (dyslexia). The program is designed to improve reading, writing, spelling and study skills. A daily one-to-one tutorial is the cornerstone of this individualized approach. Small classes and Landmark-trained faculty make all the difference for our students.
Landmark’s Summer Program is coed and designed for students who are bright and motivated to learn. We accept students age 7-20, in grades 1-12, who possess average to superior intelligence, a history of healthy emotional development and have been diagnosed with a language-based learning disability. The Residential Program excels at providing a rewarding and safe summer experience; please contact the Landmark Admission Office for age requirements. High School Program The High School’s “Summer School in a Month” is a comprehensive four-week Academic Program that runs July 5 – 30, 2010. Students in grades 8-12 will attend 3 classes (60 minutes each) and a one-to-one Language Arts Tutorial. Skill building and strategy development is the focus of all classes. After lunch and a study hall, students may continue with Afterschool Activities. These exciting programs are open to Day and Residential students and include Health & Fitness Training, Marine Science, Sea Kayaking, Short Film Production, and Visual Arts.
Residential Program The Residential Program allows students to acquire the skills they need to be successful in college and beyond, while relaxing in our beautiful coastal location. The program encourages independence, responsibility, and achievement. Community events during the week include Beach Barbeque Night, Field Day, movie nights, and intramural athletics. Weekend trips have included visits to Boston, Portland, area amusement parks, local beaches, hiking trails, and more.
Elementary and Middle School Program The Elementary and Middle School (Grades 1-7) offers a six-week Academic Program that builds language arts skills through small classes and a daily one-to-one tutorial. Following a half-day of customized classes, students in grades 3-7 may join one of two exciting afternoon programs for an additional fee. The Exploration class has fun with Marine Science and Adventure Ropes activities. The second option is Practical Arts, which includes a pair of fun hands-on challenges: Woodworking and the art of Small Engine Repair and Design.
Summer Programs at Landmark stress teamwork, exploration and hands-on activities which allow students to grow leadership and communication skills while making friends and having fun. |
